Ultra-Filtration:
Ultrafiltration (UF) involves pressure-driven separation of materials from a feed solution. The technology is used to remove particulate and microbial contaminants, but it does not remove ions and small molecules. UF modules are commercially available in tubular, hollow-fiber, plate and frame, and spiral wound configurations. The UF membrane process separates molecules in solution on the basis of size.
The pores of ultra-filtration membranes can remove particles of 0.001 – 0.1 μm from fluids. The ultra-filtration systems have established a position in the drinking water sector due to the fact that they filter water to such an extent that it is virtually free of solids. Bacteria, parasites and viruses are not killed off, but entirely removed from the drinking water.
